COURSE SCHEDULE

 


Monday, June 28th (8-12am)

  • Introductions: What online experience have you had? Why did you take the course?
  • Discuss the differences between online programs-e-mail, discussion lists, chat, newsgroups, bulliten boards
  • Theory of using Online Projects and Project Based Learning
  • Search for good projects, share (presentation time).
  • Using Discussion Lists. Survey Methods and Ideas. 
  • Divide into groups. Each group decides on a survey topic, sets up their own discussion list and sends the survey out to their list.


Homework: Look for one good online project you can share with the group.

With your group finish your survey and and your discussion list. Make sure it is done by this evening.

Begin thinking about a curriculum objective that you may be able to meet with an online project.

Read PBL using IT An Overview Chapter Two (pgs. 13-22) and begin reflection journal (see page 11).


Tuesday, June 29th

  • Begin with time to look at discussion list, collect and begin to evaluate results
  • 2 minute presentations of projects found
  • Demo of Geo Game
  • Types of Projects (handout)
  • Explanation of project assignment. The process of planning a project. Technical issues (depending on group's need)
  • Time to begin working on project.


Homework: Continue working on project.

Communicate to your discussion list.

Find an online project to share.

Read: PBL using IT Creating a PBL Lesson Plan Chapter 6 (pgs 65-73)


Wednesday, June 30th

  • Begin with time to look at discussion list, collect and evaluate any more survey results.
  • 2 minute presentations-Each student in the class will present a project they found.
  • Introduction to TappedIn http://www.tappedin.org
  • Question and answer on project thoughts.
  • Time to work on developing their project.



Homework:

Continue working on your project.

Interact with your discussion group.

Find an Online project to share.

Read: PBL using IT Assessment-Chapter 7 (pgs 75-91)


Thursday, July 1st

  • Evaluations of what needs to be done. Question and Answer time.
  • 2 minute presentations of projects found.
  • 1 hour work time to complete project plan.
  • Time to look at and participate in discussion list. Prepare and send final message.


You have been added to the edproj discussion list. As long as there is interest that list will continue. The web page for the class will also be up until next summer. Check it in a week or so to see your project posted.

Keep using the PBL using IT book as a resource.
